August-A Month of Firsts

I keep seeing the phrase the days are long but the years are short--seems like this is a popular saying for people who have toddlers. As the mom of a 3 week old, the nights are long but the days are short seems like a better fit. The days are flying by, and I can't get them to slow down
Right now, there is nothing that Jack could do to make me angry. He can wake up as many times as he wants to in the middle of the night and I will happily (sleepily) feed him. If you read yesterday's post, you know that I've already been spit up on, pooped on, and peed on...many times in these short 3 weeks. Did I get frustrated, angry, or lose my patience? Of course not! When I have those beautiful big eyes staring back at me, happy and grateful are the only feelings that I know.
I do realize that those long days are ahead-those days when I am counting down the minutes to nap time and having to correct Jack for the same things over and over again.
There are a few things that I hope I can remember on those days, moments that I want to be able to look back on to keep things in perspective:
  • The first time I laid eyes on my precious boy and my heart melted out of my chest
  • Waking up the next morning and realizing that the cute little boy sleeping in his bassinet was mine
  • The first time I saw him smile
  • The first time he gripped my finger
  • The way I felt when Jack locked eyes with mine for the first time and I knew he could actually see me
  • Jack's first bath

I am holding on tight to all of these sweet moments.

July Favorites

[one]
Family and friends came to visit (this was actually in June...shhhh!). The nice thing about moving every few years in the military is that family/friends can plan their vacations around where you are stationed. The not nice thing is that you only get to see them a few times a year.

My coworkers. Love and miss them. We went to a baseball game and saw fireworks for the 4th. Only in the South can you see the Sand Gnats play the Crawdads. It may not be Cubs vs. White Sox, but I'll take what I can get.

Babies.
Two family members had babies this month. The holidays are going to be very exhausting exciting!!

You may think this is a picture of my mantle...but if you look closely, you will see that yes-that is a mistletoe, and yes-that is Ben waiting impatiently under it. While packing up our Christmas decorations, he decided that we will keep out the mistletoe year round.  I guess he didn't want to miss any opportunities!
I find him like this a lot, with that same expression on his face...How dare I not notice him waiting...

January faves

It's the first day of a new month, so I decided to link-up with Ashley and share some of my favorite *things* from January.  It's really suppose to be done on the last day of the month...oh well! Maybe next time.  :)

#1 Ben reading pregnancy books.  I love that he cares so much about our growing baby and takes such good care of the both of us.
And having our first ultrasound--that's tied for 1st place of awesomeness from January.  See this post for ultrasound pic.

#2 My sister.  That's her, pink-eye and all (she's going to kill me), crammed in the back of our car heading from Chicago to SC with us.  She came to spend NYE with us--and I was so sick that I could not leave the couch, so she snuggled up with Ben and I and we watched movies all night.

#3 Napping surrounded by warm clothes from the dryer and cuddling with Sake`.

#4 Learning how Ben's mind works.  There's no picture for this one, but I just love that I am still learning a lot about Ben 1 1/2 years into our marriage.  Let me give you an example from this month.  On a Tuesday, Ben mentions to me, "I wonder how much money we could get if we sold my truck.  I don't think we can fit a car-seat in the backseat."  Wednesday, "I posted my truck online just to see if anyone is interested."  Friday, "We have 3 appointments tomorrow to test drive a few SUVs."  Later that week the new car is purchased.

#5 Birthday parties.  The two pictures below are both from amaaaazing birthday parties Ben and I went to this month.  The first one was for my friend/coworker's super adorable son.  We had a blast bowling, and I'm pretty sure he beat me and his mom...by quite a lot!  The second picture is from my friend Seyi's birthday party.  It was a sweet surprise that her husband planned for her--couldn't have been any more perfect (she's in the pink)!

#5 And last but not least, I loooove that Nama has absolutely no idea that he is about to fall off the bin.  This happens on a regular basis.  Sometimes in the middle of the night.  Maybe we should get a bigger bin!

I hope ya'll had a fabulous January! Feel free to share some of your favorites in the comment section!!
